Educating and informing people owning or with an interest in historic buildings is an important part of the service offered by HBAS.
A large element of the work of HBAS is to help overcome the misconceptions, modern myths and general lack of knowledge that surrounds historic buildings. Much of this is about how to work in an appropriate manner to maintain their fabric and character.
Other aspects of education and training that we aim to promote consider the financial and tax implications of buying and owning older properties and landscapes.
An often overlooked consideration is how best to live in and with an historic building and the adjustments that often need to be made by those more used to modern houses. This encompasses a combination of practical and philosophical considerations of what it is like to live in an old property, including some of the idiosyncrasies as well as difficulties that can arise.
All our education and training has the object of widening the knowledge base of those dealing with historic buildings and landscapes to ensure proper and appropriate methods of conservation and restoration. It also provides current background thought and philosophy on the subject.
