  Service Outline

The Historic Building Advisory Service is an internet-based service that is designed to be easy to use and responsive to those using it.  Members can access the full extent of our expanding FAQ pages (NB non members can access only the summary section for each question).
If you have a more unusual enquiry you can send it to our enquiry desk for individual consideration.  The service is intended to allow you easy access to specialists on any subject relating to historic buildings and landscapes whether it concerns building, financial, tax or other matters.  We will always deal with your enquiry in strict confidence.  For more details as to how your enquiry will be handled click here.

Sometimes we cannot answer a complex question in the normal manner by e-mail because there will be a number of other factors to be taken into account.  In such cases we will either ask you to supply further details or we will arrange to visit the site and carry out an inspection.  This ensures that our answer really provides the best solution to your unique set of circumstances.

How your enquiry will be handled

Requests for technical advice or assistance will firstly be confirmed back to the member by e-mail to ensure the query has been understood properly.

Following confirmation of the query, each question will be carefully considered by one of our team of experts before the response is e mailed back.

At times a straightforward response may not be possible or it may need to contain a number of provisos or other qualifications. This may lead to the enquiry needing to be developed (where appropriate) with site visits/inspections as part of our further service. This will ensure that HBAS is always able to deliver a precisely tailored service to meet your requirements in all circumstances.

All guidance and advisory work will follow the philosophies and guidelines of the relevant organisations such as:

· the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB)
· Institute of Field Archaeologists (IFA)
· Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC)
· Civic Trust, and English Heritage (EH)
· Historic Scotland (HS)
· CADW

This is to ensure a consistent level of approach when providing each client with assistance, so as to maintain a high standard of delivery and a professional service.
