The Historic Building Advisory Service is an internet-based service that is designed to be easy to use and responsive to those using it. Members can access the full extent of our expanding FAQ pages (NB non members can access only the summary section for each question).
If you have a more unusual enquiry you can send it to our enquiry desk for individual consideration. The service is intended to allow you easy access to specialists on any subject relating to historic buildings and landscapes whether it concerns building, financial, tax or other matters. Sometimes we cannot answer a complex question in the normal manner by e-mail because there will be a number of other factors to be taken into account. In such cases we will either ask you to supply further details or we will arrange to visit the site and carry out an inspection. This ensures that our answer really provides the best solution to your unique set of circumstances.

for technical advice or assistance will firstly be confirmed
back to the member by e-mail to ensure the query has
been understood properly.
Following confirmation of the
query, each question will be carefully considered by
one of our team of experts before the response is e
mailed back.
At times a straightforward
response may not be possible or it may need to contain
a number of provisos or other qualifications. This may
lead to the enquiry needing to be developed (where appropriate)
with site visits/inspections as part of our further
service. This will ensure that HBAS is always able to
